Did we mention that the New River Valley Triathlon began as a dream over two years ago? 

Have we admitted that the New River Valley Triathlon blog was launched a year ago without even knowing whether we could really host a triathlon, much less have a date for the event?

Have we mentioned that it took guts for us dream that dream?

But all we have into the New River Valley Triathlon is time.

What really takes guts is to write a check in support of a first-time event that began as just someone’s dream.

Firsts for the First New River Valley Triathlon - Numbers Matter

Numbers matter in a triathlon. 

Particpants' race numbers are marked on their shoulders and above their knees.  A swimmer needs to get in the pool line at the right place based on his or her swim start time.  And who finishes when and in what order can matter, although when the event benefits a charity, like the 2009 New River Valley Triathlon benefits the Mental Health Association of the New River Valley, winning seems to spread far and wide.

Firsts for the First New River Valley Triathlon - First Participant

We would like to recognize and honor the first supporters of the first New River Valley Triathlon.

Our very first "first" occurred almost a year ago when the New River Valley Triathlon was barely more than an idea.

The very first person to declare he would enter the New River Valley Triathlon was Jeremy Hart.

On January 12, 2008, Jeremy Hart wrote in his blog, NRVLiving - Real Estate. Simplified, that he was going to Swim! Bike! Run! in the New River Valley Triathlon.

You were our first champion, Jeremy, before the race even began.  Thank you.

Take on TORC for the New River Valley Triathlon Valley Cup

TORC is already declaring the New River Valley Triathlon Valley Cup will be theirs.

For a bunch of engineers, TORC claims to be rather athletic, participating in softball leagues each year, and even sponsoring their first men’s basketball team this winter.  A few avid bikers, runners, and even a high-school swimmer or two mix it up with their sky-diving CEO, and they love a challenge.  Training has begun, and TORC is confident it will take home the Valley Cup.
