The production company for the New River Valley Triathlon, Set Up Events, expects heavy online traffic when registration for the Virginia Triahtlon Series opens on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 7:00 PM.
At least a half an hour before 7:00 PM, become a member.
A USA Triathlon (USAT) number is requested, but not required. Here's the link to become a member.
Go to the Set Up Events/Virginia Triathlon Series official page for the New River Valley Triathlon.
In the upper right-hand corner of the page, you'll see a button with "Closed Event X."
Refresh at 7:00 PM. When that button says, "Register for Event >" - click it!
You'll need a credit card number to reserve your space.
Good luck!

Here is the rest of the earlier post:

So I followed their advice to set up a registration account now and became a member.
Although I participated last season, my e-mail address and other basic information has changed, so I created a new profile.
Here are a few tips:
Although the phone number format looks like this: (555-555-5555)
The format the online form wants is this: 555-555-5555
The information requested is the standard name and address.
A few differences:
Birthdate is requested because triathlon winners are grouped by age.
An emergency contact name and phone number is requested. I listed my sister since my husband and I usually race together, but I couldn't remember her phone number since it's stored in my cell phone. I'll log back in and correct that.
A USA Triathlon (USAT) number is requested, but not required. Here's the link to become a member. Non-USAT members pay a $10.00 extra fee to sign up for a race. For example, USAT members would pay $65.00 to register as an individual for the New River Valley Triathlon. Non-USAT members would pay $75.00.
I thought I was only going to do one triathlon last year, so I did not join USAT and paid the extra $10.00 per race. I ended up doing 6 races, for a total of $60.00 in extra fees. Since I plan to do several races this year, I joined.
I'm disappointed that the participant list feature has been disabled so I won't get to watch the New River Valley Triathlon participant list grow on race day.
What this means for participants, too, is that we have to decide now which races we want to enter. We won't be able to tell if they're filling quickly, or already full. Last year, several races filled in under an hour.
All of this will require a strategy.
Wishing you a smooth registration for the New River Valley Triathlon!
