By 7:32 PM on Thursday, January 3, 2008, thirty-two minutes past the opening of online registration for triathlons organized by Set Up Events, the MAP Sprint Triathlon in North Carolina, with a cap of 600 participants, had 510 registrants. By 7:49 PM, it was closed.
Note that the MAP Sprint Triathlon is held in an Olympic-sized pool--the same size as the one being built in the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
According to Steve Huppert’s article in the 1/6/07 New River Valley Current section of the Roanoke Times, the Christiansburg Aquatic Center “will be one of four 50-meter pools in Virginia and one of the finest aquatic centers in the South.”
What does this mean for people who want to participate in the New River Valley Triathlon, with a cap of 700, scheduled for 2009? They might want to have mouse in hand when registration opens in 2009.
